AAKAAR – The voice of art (Edition 1)
About AAKAAR :
AAKAAR, meaning shape, is one of the most important visual elements of an art. According to a theory, shapes stimulate various emotions in the mind of the viewer, and holds the strength to set a direction to an artwork. It speaks for itself and asks the viewer to interpret. Shapes hold the key of an artwork to communicate and hence it is THE VOICE OF ART !
It is our first national annual magazine which strives for promoting aspiring visual artists working with different mediums . It aims to showcase their work nationwide. Also, “Beyond the Canvas” Is our segment where we promote artist from different background like performing arts, art travels and social works related to art. This magazine focuses on bringing the art community together and creating awareness about the existing art community.
Birth of Aakaar Magazine :
The journey of our first magazine is quite interesting. Usually every exhibition has a catalogue of all the artists and similarly we were preparing for the catalogue of our Splash exhibition. Our designer Ahwan Mishra thought to make it elite. When I received the draft, I was bit confused at the start and started scratching my head thinking how to explain him about the catalogue design. Took some time, sat for a while figuring out how to change the design and later on realised that it looks similar to a magazine. Quickly, without wasting a second I called one of our guide Mrs Babita Raj ( An artist and Art teacher from Delhi) and discussed the idea with her. She was surprised and appreciated the idea. I was very clear that this is something which will be vital in promoting artists rather than the usual catalogue. The idea was liked the artists and the chief guest – Mrs. Sarah Sham (principal designer at Essajees atelier) and they all wished us luck for this venture. Though we planned for an offline magazine launch, but covid closed the doors. Internet was the only saviour and we decided to make it an e-magazine. The first edition was released on 15th August, 2020 with Biswal Sir as the chief guest. The entire week was celebrated as Magazine Celebration week with featured artists live on Instagram every evening.
